Halloween Mantle & Buffet Decor

This year, we decided to do a little S P O O K Y mantle over at Cassidy's house.

One thing we highly recommend with holiday decor (especially for the sake of your wallet) is to get creative with a little DIY. You are only going to have this decor out for a couple weeks out of the year, so no need to go buy expensive trendy pieces! The total of the mantle decor cost about $50! All links to decor pieces can be found here. Also, if you need some context as to why the letterboard says "freakin' bats" watch this video (one of Cassidy's all time favorites).

One of the key things we recommend when decorating is starting with a couple of pieces you really like a building off of those. We knew when we started that we wanted to use the skeleton-- that was our first piece. From there, we decided on the black candle sticks, but wanted to save a little money since they were only going to be up for a few weeks (see below for how we saved on those). After that, we found the black and white star pumpkin at Home Goods and the black and white theme went from there. Some times the easiest way to decorate is to start with a couple of pieces and then fill in from there to get it exactly how you want/imagined it. Hope this helps get your creative juices flowing for your halloween decor! Or if you want, just copy ours!

DIY Halloween Decor Pieces

Black Candle Sticks

We purchased some cheap glass candlesticks for less than $2 at Goodwill. Then, we used a little bit of black matte spray paint and voila! If these chip while in storage until next year, I will just spray them down with the spray paint next year.

Bat Images

We purchased the bat image on Etsy, then printed them out on card stock. I grabbed a couple of cheap frames from the dollar store and bam! Cute and easy and cost less than $5 total for both!

Mini Black Pumpkins

We just used some pumpkins that I had that I wasn't using for fall decor and painted them black! Highly recommend trying to use stuff that you already have and re-purpose it! Also, I wanted some black pumpkins for the dough bowl on the buffet table but I couldn't find any, so I just bought some regular orange ones from Hobby Lobby and spray painted black as well!
