Fall Wardrobe on a Budget

One thing you should be aware of with this blog is that I am C H E A P. Don't get me wrong, I like nice things as much as the next guy, but I have 0 interest in buying stuff at the prices others are willing to pay. Which is part of our heart behind the blog-- showing how to do things that you love and enjoy without breaking the bank! Whether that be updating furniture in your home, going on a trip, decorating for a holiday, or getting some new clothes! So-- how do I shop for clothes on the cheap?

Enter... THREADUP.

Here's a little back story as to how I found this site. For months I had been selling stuff on Poshmark in order to save money to get some new fall pieces. But when October came around and I was ready to go out and do my fall shopping... COVID. Yep, Covid hit our household and we were on lockdown (we may eventually share a post on that experience). So, there I was with some cash saved up and no where to shop. Which is when I found ThreadUp. I had heard of ThreadUp for years, but personally never used it. Here is a link to get $20 off your first order. Note that this is not in any way sponsored by ThreadUp, I just genuinely came across their site and found a bunch of great pieces for cheap!

Here is what I like about it:

  1. You can shop for used clothes online. I have always been an advocate of shopping used-- it's cheaper and better for the environment to recycle clothes.

  2. Free shipping over $79. This makes it so much easier to buy used. A lot of other used sites that I've seen you pay for shipping regardless of how much you spend. $5 or $500 and you still have to pay for shipping.

  3. You can bundle and save to get free shipping. This means that you can pay $6 and for a week you can add more things to your order and once you get to $79, you get that $6 back. At the end of the week, they ship everything you have purchased. This is great because you have a WEEK to get to that free shipping threshold of $79 and if you don't get there, you just pay the $6 shipping.

  4. COUPONS. If you know me, you know I love coupons. Coupons on top of already discounted prices? All day long, baby. With threadup, you get 50% off your first order. So, make it worth it. You will see below some of the prices I got using coupons. They also have coupon codes but you can only use one per order, which is why #3 above is AWESOME. Then you can place multiple orders and use different coupon codes. 40% off pants on one order and 30% off black shirts in another = more savings!

  5. You can filter by condition and savings. Everything I ordered was either "new with tags" or "like new"-- which is the best kind of used to buy. You can also filter by "on sale" so that you see things that are discounted. Extra 50% off something that's already 50% off? Yes please!

Here are some pieces that I got and their prices:

One thing I try and do is find pieces that can be worn multiple ways. You will notice from the pictures that a lot of things I just styled in different ways (and no one would probably ever notice). I also like to find staple pieces that can (1) be worn multiple ways and (2) make a statement! Total cost for everything shown below is less than $150!

Red Plaid Skirt

One thing I love about a plaid skirt is that there are so many different ways to wear it! I styled it a little more edgy, a little more preppy and then a little more classic!

Skirt: $11 | Black Star Sweater: $10 | White Fuzzy Sweater: $4 | Black Turtleneck: $3.50

Classic Burnt Orange Sweater

A burnt orange sweater is a closet staple in the fall!

Sweater: $13 | Black Skirt: $3.50

Black Flared Corduroy Pants

I feel like corduroy is something that you can dress a little more boho or go classic.

Corduroy Pants: $4.50 | Tan Sweater: $5 | Star Sweater: $10 | Cream Sweater: $7

Plaid Dress

Plaid in the fall is just so classic. And then in dress form? Even better!

Plaid Dress: $8 | Cream Sweater: $7

White Turtleneck Sweater

This is a staple item that can be worn so many ways! With jeans, dresses and skirts!

Turtleneck Sweater: $4.50 | Red Floral Dress:$8

Green Chunky Sweater

Now while this may not be a staple item, I love having a fun pop of color for fall! Plus can easily be worn at Christmas too!

Green Sweater: $8 | Black Corduroy Pants: $4.50

Plaid Pants

As soon as I saw this I just thought they screamed fall!

Plus these can be easily worn for work as well.

Plaid Pants: $10 | Black Turtleneck: $3.50 | White Button Down: $10

Cream V-Neck Sweater

This is the same sweater layered over the plaid dress.

Love how many ways it can be worn!

Cream Sweater: $7 | Scarf: $3

Plaid Top Layered Over White Button Down

Fall is all about layers, right?

I love the look of this hi-lo plaid top layered over a white button down.

Plaid Top: $8 | White Button Down: $10 | Corduroy Pants: $4.50

Suede Skirt

Here in the South, I really like skirts in the fall because it's usually pretty warm still.

Suede Skirt: $8 | Fuzzy Sweater: $4

Gray Plaid Skirt

Another classic fall piece and I love the wrap around detail on this one.

Plaid Skirt: $8 | Black Sheer Sleeve Top: $7

Hope you found this helpful and can find some deals for your wardrobe as well!
